Meet Chris R.

My name is Chris Ramirez and I am from San Francisco, California.  I am a 3-time cancer survivor of glioblastoma brain cancer.  I was diagnosed at the age of 17 and was given less than 2 months to live.  Today, I am 33 and healthy.  It all started in 2009, the second semester of my senior year of high school.  I was the captain of my baseball team, and I was looking forward to playing in college and then in the pros.  There were a few teams looking at me to go to the next level throughout my journey.  When I was diagnosed, I had brain surgeries, was on chemotherapies like Avastin, Temodar and Tarceva, and had years of radiation on top of it, as well as 2 spinal taps.  My last brain surgery was done by Dr. Allen Efron from Kaiser Redwood City and he provided me with my life-saving surgery that removed my horrible tumor.  I was also treated at UCSF, and the doctors took great care of me.  I’m extremely grateful to still be alive and able to give hope and inspiration to those in this situation.  A good quote I like to live by from Ned Colletti is “Be kind to others and be a blessing to others” – this quote has done me justice in my life.  Cancer can be beat, and one day we will find a cure.

I’d like to thank God, my mother and my sister for taking care of me. Also, Dan Bright, my pops, who taught me everything I know about baseball, Ned Colletti, the former GM of the LA Dodgers, Dave Benzer aka Big Poppa, and Bertha Fajardo from the Giants front office who was like another mom to me and extremely motivational to me.
