When Joan first came to my office and asked if we would consider hosting a charity fundraiser, I never imagined what that was actually going to turn into…
She and her committee had hosted the first Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance at Signature Flight Support the year before, and she and the head of the airport, Robert Olislagers, had talked about using the event as a way to showcase each of the FBOs on
the field.
We had hosted a pretty big charity gala a few years before, and have hosted other aviation related events, like the NBAA, etc., but I wasn’t sure about
another charity fundraiser. I told her I would think about it, and then as we were sitting, chatting, she was looking around my office and noticed
a plaque on my wall, and she started to get a little ‘misty-eyed.’ The plaque was a framed tile, hand-painted by a child who had gone on a Make-A-Wish
trip, and it had been sent to us as a thank you gift. She started telling me the story of Morgan’s Make-A-Wish trip, and how Morgan had gone into the Make-A-Wish Foundation offices a few months before she passed away and had painted a huge number of the very same tiles that were
on my wall. In fact, Joan had a matching one at her house.
After that, I was pretty much hooked. We hosted the second Morgan Adams Concours in 2004, and by the time they rotated back to us in 2006, the event needed
2 hangars, so we worked with Steve Bloom and got then Qwest, now Century Link, to join us and open their hangar to the event. We hosted again in 2008,
and have hosted each event from that point forward…the last 10 years. And,in spite of the fact that I can never find all the trashcans after
they leave, we love having them! And we look forward to another 15 years with the whole Morgan Adams Foundation crew!
