Finn

Finn Fox was an easy-going, friendly and adaptable kid. He was born April 9, 2005 in Vermont. By his first birthday, Finn and his family settled on a farm in Connecticut where he learned to love all things outdoors, especially involving mud, forts, fire or tractors. Throughout elementary school, Finn loved riding bikes, played soccer and ice hockey, and enjoyed sailing in Connecticut and Maine.

Finn’s family relocated to California, where he completed grades 4-6. In California, Finn discovered a love for scootering, tinkering, and exploring – even making it into the San Jose Mercury News with his friends as examples of “the free-range generation.” After moving to Boulder, Colorado, Finn completed middle school, and finally settled, spent four years at Boulder High School. He was proud to graduate with the class of 2023, his illness notwithstanding. At Boulder High, Finn was a strong student and member of the mountain bike and lacrosse teams.

Finn was diagnosed with Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT) cancer in January 2023, in the middle of his senior year of high school. The vast majority of AT/RT patients are under 5 years old, so his case was an outlier. His initial brain stem tumor metastasized throughout his spinal cord. He was treated by a wonderful oncology team at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Finn faced his disease with candor, bravery, grit, and grace. Finn died Sept. 10, 2023 at home with his family.

Finn was kind, funny and quick. He was a connector, who bridged groups of friends, introducing them to new people, activities, and ideas. Finn had big goals for himself, and he encouraged his friends and teammates to strive higher. Before he got sick, Finn was planning to pursue an undergraduate engineering degree in California. Outside of school, Finn loved to ski, skateboard, seek out vintage fashion at thrift stores, make funny vlogs, improve his guitar skills, exaggerate his height (6’4”, really), and spend time with his cats. He is deeply and forever missed by his parents and sister Sadie.
