Michelle Bracewell is a mixed media assemblage artist based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Armed with paint, clay, power tools, a sharp eye, and an unapologetic love for the past, she transforms forgotten objects into fierce, funny, and emotionally charged works of art. Drawing on her lifelong passion for antiques and a diverse background in art and design, Michelle weaves together elements of folk art, steampunk, and childhood nostalgia to create storytelling pieces rich in detail and spirit.
Each sculpture is meticulously crafted—layered with texture, hidden surprises, and thoughtful symbolism. Every piece is truly one-of-a-kind, with its own story that often unfolds during the creative process. Her work reflects a belief in art’s power to spark memory, joy, and introspection.
Michelle is a self-taught artist with a long history in the visual arts, including illustration, painting, and jewelry making. She also runs her own web and marketing agency, launched in 2000. In 2012, she discovered assemblage—the perfect fusion of her creative drive and her love of collecting. Her passion for women’s rights, diversity, and storytelling adds depth and cultural relevance to her work.
She scours flea markets like a relic hunter on a mission, collecting pieces brimming with untold stories and sculpting them into layered creations with clay, paint, bolts, and attitude. Her studio is a treasure trove of meticulously organized bins, each item waiting for its next chapter.
Since debuting her assemblage work at the Santa Fe Recycle Show in 2022, Michelle has earned two art awards, been featured in the Colorado Springs Gazette, KOAA (NBC), Shout Out Colorado, and had a piece acquired by the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for its 50 Percent of Creatives permanent exhibit. Her work is available through her website and Platte Collections Gallery in Colorado Springs.
