Born near Dallas, Texas, Kimberly MacArthur Graham has lived in several places across the United States and now resides in Denver, Colorado. She earned a B.A. from the University of Texas - Austin (Studio Art) and an M.A. from the University of Denver (Art History and Museum Studies).
She started showing artwork during college and continued as a professional artist for about 15 years while also working as a marketing consultant and magazine writer. She showed regularly at galleries and art centers across the United States, including several solo and two-person installations. In 2009, opportunities in marketing led Kimberly to switch gears. She started and ran a boutique marketing agency that focused on design and construction clients, as well as organizations in the arts, law, finance, and technology. The next 16 years were successful but busy, allowing little time for art.
In March 2025, life changes prompted her return to the studio. She is now making art full time, and she had her first one-person exhibition this winter.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Art-making is spiritual and meditative for me. Inspired by natural forms and rhythms and Asian concepts of wabi sabi and yin/yang, I delve into themes of fecundity, mortality, connectivity and place-making. I work with a mix of media and a process of creating and destroying, seeking the phoenix in its endless cycle of rebirth and becoming. Building up layers, adding and erasing, obscuring and uncovering . . . I seek both mystery and beauty, and I emphasize the interplay of light and shadow. My influences are many, including African and Aboriginal art, Scandinavian folk art, and Asian ink and print work.
