Artist: Floyd Day

Floyd has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan where he, also, lettered in football .He has been painting for thirty years primarily in pastel. He has been painting his impressions of cows and ranch land for the last ten years. The cows he paints are found around Ridgway, Colorado near the San Juan and Cimarron Mountains where John Wayne shot the movie True Grit. The cows are beef cattle raised on grass above 7,000 feet in the Uncompahgre River valley and in the National Forests above that valley. Typically, cows give birth in the Spring on the valley floor and are then driven to the high country for the summer and then returned to the valley in October through Winter. The paintings are set in both the high country and the Uncompahgre valley in all four seasons. Floyd's favorite season is the Fall because of the colorful yellow and orange background presented by the Aspen trees against the bright sunny blue sky. There are several types of cows in his paintings and some colorful mixed cows. These are some of Floyd's favorites.
