Artist: Carrie MaKenna

I make artwork to remind people of their interconnection with each other, nature and the universe. My intention is to draw the viewer into an experience of their own relationship with themselves, the world and understandings of life, love, joy and peace. I'm inspired at the intersection of spirituality, nature and art. My artwork includes rich textures and a delicious color palette of twenty liquid acrylics. I begin by creating texture on the canvas using a thick acrylic paste to build up the surface which I sculpt and sand before adding paint. I use a variety of elements such as dried up paint and all kinds of found objects to create additional texture. I have a BFA in Fine Art and a Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling Psychology, as well as a lifelong interest in and exploration of worldwide, universal spiritual studies and a meditative practice that guides and informs my art making. My artwork is in collections in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Austria, Ireland and the UK. My husband and I share a creative life and studio in Denver, Colorado with our studio dog Riley.
