Studying Chinese brush painting with master teachers in China and Southern California taught me the discipline and skills needed to paint authentic Chinese calligraphy as a work of art and to understand the beauty of a well executed brush stroke. Those skills inform the art that I currently create.
I love the way rice paper reacts to ink. I love the smell of the ink and the dance between the brush and paper. Asian brush strokes come from your whole body. As a wannabe dancer/choreographer in my earlier life, I feel the same happiness that a dance can bring as I paint to the music playing in my studio.
