Centennial Airport - Our Forever Home

Sunday, August 20, 2017

The Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance was first conceived over a cup of coffee at the Perfect Landing Restaurant at Centennial Airport. A young man wise beyond his years, Brett Derosier had asked me to join him because he had an idea for a charity event. The airport had ceased doing Airshows and Open Houses because we no longer had the space. Our mutual interest in airplanes and cars soon turned into talk of a fundraiser for The Morgan Adams Foundation, and the rest is history. Permitting smaller events with an eye toward giving back to the community was our way of maintaining that connection. The Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance remains that perfect “vehicle” because it brings together, under one roof, cool airplanes, awesome cars and motorcycles, and most importantly, a unique event to raise money to fund pediatric cancer research!

The Morgan Adams Concours also ties the airport community to a common purpose beyond what everyone does professionally. Each of the Fixed Base Operators, FBOs as we call them, pitches in and helps to make the event a success. TAC Air is the host; Denver jetCenter lends hangar space for displaced aircraft, as do Signature Flight Support and XJet. Mayo Aviation, a charter firm with a stellar record, also provides space and logistical support.

Sadly, both Morgan and Brett were taken from us far too soon. They are now our guardian angels who help ensure that we keep the promises that were made! This is why the Morgan Adams Concours d’Elegance has become Centennial Airport’s “main” event. It is that signature occasion when we stare deeply into the eyes of the faces you see when you enter this event, the larger-than-life black and white photos of survivors and those who have passed, that we are reminded why we open our hearts and wallets to this worthy and life-saving cause.

As we celebrate 15 years of hosting the Morgan Adams Concours, I hope you will take time to enjoy this evening of reflection and celebration. Enjoy the splendor of speed and sound because it is for a cause no person ever wants to experience; as a child, mother, father, brother, sister, nana, or papa…ever!

On behalf of everyone at Centennial Airport,
